CCA’s MFA program is a dynamic, rigorous interdisciplinary program and an integral part of the West Coast arts eco-system. Our goal is to prepare every student for a life long egagement with contemporary arts practice. We expect our students to engage in an ambitious studio practice and we foster critical thinking, self-awareness, experimentation and contextual understanding. Alongside core course components, students are given the opportunity and guidance to individually craft a curriculum that reflects emergent practices.
Our students have access to excellent facilities in ceramics, film and digital media, jewelry and metal art, glass, photography, printmaking, sculpture, 3D printing and fabrication, and textiles. They build practices by examining the relationship between craft and concept in their work andthe work of others, whether they choose to focus in one area or work across multiple disciplines. They may take graduate electives in Writing, Curatorial Practice, Visual and Critical Studies, Film, and Design or participate in our Fine Arts / Graduate Program in Visual and Critical Studies dual-degree option, earning both an MFA and MA.
Our faculty are a diverse group of professional artists, curators and writers who have robust national and international careers. In addition we have visiting artists programs and an open policy for students to work with qualified artists outside of our faculty.
