RESIDENCY OPPORTUNITY: Chilkoot Trail Artist Residency

Chilkoot Trail, Skagway, AK

Together, the Yukon Arts Centre, Parks Canada and the US National Park Service are providing an opportunity for established visual artists to pursue their work amidst history and nature on the Chilkoot Trail. Artists will hike the entire trail during a two week backpacking trip, spending one to three days at each campsite. Artists will also receive up to $100 USD support from Skagway Arts Council in purchasing necessary art supplies and a $1,000 CAD honorarium from the Yukon Arts Centre. This residency is open to Canadian and American visual artists for 2017.

The Zuckerman Museum of Art announces its annual call for exhibition proposals from emerging curators in the field of contemporary art.The Emerging Curator(s) will receive a $1,500 fee and an exhibition budget of $7,500 for the 2016-2018 cycle, and will work with the ZMA’s staff of museum professionals to stage an exhibition or project in the ZMA’s galleries no less than 12 months and no more than 24 months from the date of notification.

The School of Art and Design at Indiana University Bloomington invites applications for a 4-6 week Fall 2017 McKinney International Art and Design Residency. The residency is open to artists at all levels of their career whose primary country of residency is outside of the United States. Approximate dates for Fall 2017 are September 4th through Dec 15th. Selected applicants will be featured as part of the McKinney Visiting Artist Lecture Series and will receive studio space, lodging and a $4,000 USD honorarium. The program will also reimburse travel up to $2,000.

MFA Art Practice at the School of Visual Arts invites emerging and mid-career artists working in all disciplines to apply for the inaugural Art Practice Artist-in-Residence program. One artist will be selected to be the Artist-in-Residence for the duration of the Art Practice program’s summer semester. The residency period will be June 12 – August 4, 2017. The Artist-in-Residence will receive a studio, access to the facilities, including the Metal Shop, Wood Shop, Digital Sculpture Center, Digital Editing Lab, Fibers Lab, Ceramics Lab and Nature and Technology Lab, and a $2500 stipend. He or she is expected to engage with the SVA Art Practice community, participate in weekly group critiques, and develop a project with first-year MFA candidates in the program, which will culminate in a public presentation (exhibition, screening, performance, book launch, etc.)

The Artistic Director of Painting, Drawing & Printmaking will provide professional leadership, artistic expertise and institutional support to all programs in this artistic area. The Artistic Director is expected to be a practicing artist who has a direct involvement in the Ranch community as an artist, teacher and administrator. As part of the team of Artistic Directors, representing the major disciplines offered by the Ranch, the selected individual is expected to collaborate as a team member on envisioning and implementing the organization’s strategic goals and objectives. He/She will be a practicing artist with a national and international exhibition record. The position requires a strong professional network to enhance the level of programming in his/her practice area.This full-time, year-round position reports to the Executive Director.

The Artistic Director will: develop curriculum and invite guest faculty to teach; supervise studio coordinators, workshop instructors and interns; work with administrative staff on course development, promotion, student recruitment, program marketing and assessment as well as teach workshops on a periodic basis.It is expected that the Artistic Director participate in the Artist-in-Residence Program by conducting the initial review of applications, supporting jury selection, participating in residency functions and acting as a mentor to residents.As part of a team of Artistic Directors representing the major art disciplines offered by the Ranch, the individual is expected to collaborate as a team member on envisioning and implementing the organization’s strategic goals and objectives.

CALL FOR APPLICATIONS: CCA FELLOWSHIP PROGRAM

Center for Contemporary Art, CCA Kitakyushu operates a fellowship program for young artists and researchers who are engaged in art, curatorial work, design and architecture.

CCA Fellowship Program 2017–18 runs from September 2017 to the end of March 2018. Each fellow will be required to stay and work in Kitakyushu for a few months, either consecutively or intermittently during this period of time.

Fellows are expected to further develop their research and studies through discussions, workshops and other CCA activities during their stay. At the end of the program, fellows are required to present the results of their project as report, exhibition, etc., with advice from the directors.

Fellows are selected by CCA International Committee. Preference will be given to applicants under 40 years of age. Fellows are supported with living expenses through CCA Scholarship Committee, and CCA covers one return transportation fare according to CCA terms.

Text Tales: Narrativity in Cloth & Thread -Thirteenth Annual Exhibition of the CCA Textiles Program

The CCA Textiles Program is pleased to present its thirteenth annual exhibition, which fills all four rooms of CCA’s College Avenue Galleries. 

The exhibition includes the work of CCA graduate students who work in and around textiles, embroideries produced by undergraduate students in Narrative Stitches (taught by Anne Wolf), and weavings created by undergraduate students in Storylines (taught by Tali Weinberg).

We are also delighted to include the work of Ruth Tabancay, the fourth annual Lia Cook Jacquard Artist-in-Residence, who produced work on the TC-1 loom in the CCA Weaving Studios in October 2016.

Künstlerhaus Büchsenhausen is a post-graduate center for production, research, and exchange in the fields of visual arts and art theory. Within the framework of the Fellowship Program for Art and Theory, the Künstlerhaus provides a platform that facilitates the development and production of artistic and art-theoretical projects in a critical context. At the same time, Künstlerhaus Büchsenhausen offers a forum for direct exchange between professionals—artists, theoreticians, critics, and curators—from the region and abroad, as well as a point of interaction with local interested audiences. Künstlerhaus Büchsenhausen is affiliated with the Tyrolean Artists’ Association, the major association of visual artists from the region.

Fellowship Program
With its Fellowship Program for Art and Theory, Büchsenhausen promotes internationally relevant artistic production, research, and discussion in the region of Tyrol. The program is based on the idea of generating and maintaining a context for production and discussion in which artists and theorists can connect and reflect on international art and societal discourses in relation to local topics and issues. At the same time, it affords the opportunity for an artistic laboratory of experimentation, where new artistic practices and strategies may be tried out.

Exhibition and events offer a bolstering sense of community in the midst of a tumultuous political era.

On the eve of the inauguration, and into the first days of a new regime, Resistance Training, a presentation of recent a new artwork and activism, provides a needed opportunity to gather aesthetic and artist community forces and brace for what comes next. Organized by curator Glen Helfand, the exhibition focuses on aesthetic gestures that offer models of resistance to negative shifts and ideas for action, be they poetic, ideological, or forceful protest. The location on the Mills College campus offers the opportunity to create a space for gathering that draws upon intellectual resources and dialogs.

In the realm of fitness, the term resistance training refers to exercising muscles using an opposing force. The official transition of power to a game changing new U.S. president, which occurs on January 20, is a large, heavyweight force to oppose with the purpose of becoming stronger. Various communities, artists and activists, are banding together in dialogue and creative action to engage strategies for survival in what promises to be a challenging period.

The exhibition will include artworks, actions, and demos of strategies for survival. Artists include Luke Butler, Ana Teresa Fernandez, Sarah Hotchkiss, Omar Mismar, Melissa Wyman, Rachel Weidinger, Andrea Bowers, Alex Molinari, and others. Resistance Training also will include Post Fax, a faxing campaign targeting office workers, interns, and others with pertinent messages sent through a form more tactile, and perhaps urgent, than social media; and be an affiliated venue for 100 Days, an artist-organized calendar featuring one daily artistic response to Trump’s first 100 days in office.

Established in 2011, Arts at CERN, the official arts programme of the European Organization for Nuclear Research in Geneva, engages with art at the cutting edge of scientific research. In the second year of a successful collaboration with Foundation for Art and Creative Technology (FACT) in Liverpool—we are proud to announce the sixth edition of COLLIDE International Award. 

Arts at CERN and FACT joined efforts in order to influence an international and flourishing scene of art and science. Furthermore, the prize was established to provide excellent opportunities to explore crossovers and dialogs between artists and scientists at CERN.

The open call for entries welcomes proposals from artists from any country who are inspired by the ground-breaking research environment at CERN. From all the applications received one artist will be selected to receive a prize of CHF 15,000 and a two-month residency at the lab during 2017. Moreover, the prize comprises a following one-month residency at FACT, the UK’s leading media arts centre, to further develop the awarded proposal and to move into a funded production.
