Laura Figa and Aline Schwibbe’s works join in YOUR FREEDOM DEPENDS ON ME. Together they touch upon issues of agency, authority, trust, absence and paradox. Both artists exploit the precarious formal limitations they knowingly set up for themselves as a means of inquiring into the contingencies of choice; for where does authority lie when a line built to break is broken?
Harmonizing and colliding, Figa and Schwibbe’s mixed media works speak to one another on the optimism, futility, and danger of these breakages and erasures. They approach the ecstatic possibilities of dislocation through interchangeable depictions of groundedness, flotation and isolation.
